The weather in Manitoba has been slowly warming, which means the snow is melting and our communities will soon flourish with greener grass and geese returning home.
Spring is also an active time in government and at home — and as the MLA for St. Vital, I am happy to share some of the good things we have seen over the last few months.
I am pleased to share that two groups in St. Vital have received funds through the provincial Community Support Grant Program this year. Teen Stop Jeunesse has received $20,000 for upgrades to its technology and security equipment. As well, the Victor Mager Parent Association has received $8,751 to replace worn-out wall pads for Victor Mager School’s gymnasium. Giving back to St. Vital has always been my priority, and I look forward to continuing to do so to ensure the betterment of our community.
Other good news is that several new businesses have opened their doors in St. Vital. Cora’s Breakfast and Lunch at 845 Dakota St. welcomed its first guests on March 13, and hasn’t slowed down since. I want to congratulate owners Darcy Zhang and Venson Wang, and wish them many future successes. For those with a sweet tooth, Sweet Retreat and Rusa K. Dessert Café on St. Mary’s Road will be enticing. I speak from experience when I say visitors won’t be disappointed when stopping by to check out these shops.
As many new doors open for businesses in our area of Winnipeg, I would like to say goodbye as one closes. Sofia’s Boutique will soon be closing its doors, and I thank Barb Krahn and her team for providing women with stylish everyday fashion for so many years. I wish Barb all the best as she enters retirement.
I am also excited to share that I will be hosting a free information session about support services for older adults on April 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at my office at 117C St. Anne’s Rd. Individuals are invited to come down and learn more. To RSVP, please contact my office at 204-505-9300.
See you next time in St. Vital.
