This past April, our Manitoba government was pleased to announce funding of up to $53,317 in support of the Life and Employability Enhancement Program (LEEP) at the Salvation Army Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre in St. Vital.
The LEEP is a pre-employment training program for high-risk, war-affected newcomer youth. With an ongoing need for youth support in St. Vital and around the city, our government is happy to continue supporting programs such as this. I want to thank the staff and volunteers at the Salvation Army Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre for their dedication to the betterment of our community and future generations.
Spring and summer are some of the busiest times for families. School will soon be over for the year, spring cleaning is in full swing and many Manitobans are off to the lake to enjoy time at the beach. As those of us who spend our summers in the city know, there is no shortage of ways to keep busy and enjoy the warmer weather, and I am happy to highlight a few of the upcoming events in St. Vital.
Make sure to stop by Windsor Community Centre’s family barbecue on Sat., June 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. As well, Pulford Community Living Services will present its second annual garage sale fundraising event at Glenwood Community Centre on Sat., June 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. And Norberry-Glenlee Community Centre will host its Knights Summer Carnival on Sat., June 8 from 6 p.m. to dusk. Don’t miss the fireworks! I look forward to seeing you there.
I would also like to wish all of the staff and students in the Louis Riel School Division a happy end of the school year and summer. To each of the graduating students — you made it! Congratulations to everyone on another successful school year. I hope the months ahead are filled with time for rest and fun.
See you next time in St. Vital.
